Talking Points

These Talking Points will help you quickly convey your support for the Antifreeze Bittering Act (H.R. 2567). Use them to contact your legislators.

  1. Urge your Representative to vote in support of H.R. 2567, the Engine Coolant and Antifreeze Bittering Agent Act of 2005.
  2. This bill will help prevent children and animals from ingesting antifreeze by requiring a bitter substance be added to make it taste bad. Antifreeze tastes sweet but is highly toxic.
  3. 10,000 animals are poisoned by antifreeze every year, sometimes deliberately. Many of them die.
  4. Animal welfare groups and the antifreeze industry support the bill. This is sensible legislation that provides a needed safeguard against the hazard of antifreeze, in addition to child-resistant caps and proper storage and disposal.
