Animal Friendly License Plates


More and more states are trying to reduce dog and cat overpopulation
through the sale of "animal friendly" license plates.
When drivers purchase a special "animal friendly"
license plates for their cars, money is set aside for spay/neuter
funds. In some states, the Department of Motor Vehicles administers
the funds, in others the plates are sold from and directly benefit
specific animal shelters.
Animal friendly license plates are now available in: Arizona,
Connecticut,
Delaware,
Florida,
Georgia,
Hawaii*,
Illinois,
Kentucky,
Maryland,
Massachusetts,
Mississippi, Montana*,
Nevada,
New
Jersey, New
Mexico, New
York, North
Carolina, Ohio,
Oklahoma,
Tennessee,
Texas,
South
Carolina, Utah,
Virginia
and Washington.
The following states have passed legislation to create these
special plates but still need your help to ensure the plates
are made available to the public: Alabama,
Louisiana,
and Missouri.

*Hawaii and Montana currently offer a pet friendly license
plate with the proceeds going to a single sponsoring organization.
These specialty plates are designed with distinctive backgrounds,
colors or phrases that identify the sponsoring organization.
These are not state-run programs.
